Honda Publishes Promising PatentOct 12nd, 2016
Though technology for electric cars has significantly improved over the years, electric cars are still not as convenient as gasoline powered vehicles. Honda recently published a patent that could potentially be the solution for a greater range and better electric charging. This new patent explains a system that would have an arm-like device that would extend from the vehicle. The rail would ride in a grooved rail on the side of the road. It would be connected to the electrical grid and could charge the car as it drives. This system has been compared to electric trolleys that would connect to power lines.
This solution would cost less than a wireless charging system that has been proposed. Though this idea could potentially work, there are a few problems that were brought forward. Even with the potential issues that could be argued with this technology, it is a step forward in finding the best solution for increasing the range of electric vehicles and improving charging times.
This new technology could spark new innovations from car companies all over the world, including Honda.
