2016 Honda CRV vs. 2016 Ford Escape

With superior efficiency and more feature-rich trims, the 2016 Honda CR-V thoroughly outclasses the 2016 Ford Escape in a variety of ways. Let’s take a closer look at the 2016 CR-V and the 2016 Escape side by side.

Powertrains and MPG

Whether you’re a commuter on the highway or a driver who drives on mostly city streets, you’ll want to pick a crossover that can go the distance. The 2016 Honda CR-V comes equipped with a 2.4L 4-cylinder engine that produces 185 hp and 181 lb-ft of torque. The engine will you up to 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway with FWD or 25 mpg city and 31 mpg highway with AWD.

In comparison, the entry-level 2016 Ford Escape starts at a similar price but only offers a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine that produces a meager 168 hp and 170 lb-ft. Even with a lower output, that engine still consumes more fuel, only managing up to 22 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. The Escape has two other engine options, neither of which live up to the CR-V’s engine on efficiency. The most efficiency you can hope to get with a 2016 Escape with 4WD is 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway — a significantly lower rating than the 2016 CR-V.

Tech Features

The Honda CR-V comes with five different trims level, so there is likely to be a model that fits your needs. The 2016 Ford Escape only offers three trims, and you are unlikely to get the advanced features that you would with the CR-V. In fact, even if you select a top-of-the-line Escape Titanium trim, you won’t receive the advanced safety technologies that you would if you chose the CR-V Touring trim. The following safety features are standard on the CR-V Touring and optional on the Escape Titanium:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) Indicator)
  • Collision Mitigation Braking System Indicator
  • Lane Departure Warning (LDW) Indicator
  • Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) Indicator
